For example, you can rain on a corn field to make it grow faster and then strike it with lightning to create oversized popcorn that takes over the field. In fact, some of the craziest elements of each stage aren’t even tied to the required objectives for completion, meaning you have to experiment to see everything. There are bonus objectives to be found in each level (with even more being added in New Game+ after you clear the game) and they all maintain an outlandish and comical sense about them.Īpart from completing the objectives in each stage, the game practically begs you to play around and see what kind of chaos you can create. Each stage has multiple objectives that require you to use Cloudy’s powers to solve, such as ruining a wedding, defending a bomb, or helping an old lady with her groceries. Rain allows you to drench people and put out fires, wind lets you create a powerful tornado to blow things around, lightning is used to burn things to a crisp and activate switches, and snow creates slippery paths that can knock things over. Objectives are completed by using Cloudy’s four weather abilities: rain, wind, lightning, and snow. ![]() There are 50 stages in the game, all of which are set in varied locations and have their own lists of distinct objectives to complete in order to progress. However, the humor isn’t solely found in the writing, but in the gameplay as well. This is largely due to the fact that the writers are totally dialed in to what they want to do and don’t take themselves seriously at all, resulting in a game that isn’t afraid to make fun of itself for the sake of the player’s enjoyment. Whether it’s making playful jabs at trends in the gaming industry, parodying pop culture, or presenting a villain incapable of speaking without rhyming, there’s a constant focus on humor that, surprisingly, always lands. In case it wasn’t clear by now, Rain on Your Parade is a very humor-centric title. Told as a bedtime story from a grandfather to his grandson, Cloudy’s adventure is all about unleashing the power of weather on unsuspecting groups of “hoomans” as you make your way to Seattle, which is apparently the promised land for clouds. Rain on Your Parade puts players in the role of Cloudy, a happy little cloud with a penchant for mischief. ![]() While some games may try to tackle subjects such as existentialism, morality, or the human cost of our actions, Rain on Your Parade asks a much more tantalizing question: what would you do if you were a cloud? ![]() It’s a game that constantly reinvents itself, shocks the player, and amazes with its spectacle. The indie space is full of creative, colorful and wholesome games, but Rain on Your Parade still manages to feel like lightning in a bottle.
